Are you sick of sooty glass and uneven wax? Make the most out of your candle so it cand last and smell good forever, following these steps.

Some people might be surprised to learn that there are proper ways and improper ways to care for candles. After all, what possible care could one candle require? However, if you want to keep your candles in great condition, there are several actions you should be doing.
This procedure should take at least an hour, according to Maria Galdea, owner of Moon River, so avoid lighting a fresh candle unless you have some extra time to spare.
Tip #1 - Prepare your candle for the first burn
Making sure that your wick is the right length should be your first priority. Before burning, your wick should be roughly 3mm long.
Next, you need to identify the ideal burning surface. The perfect surface is even, sheltered from heat, shielded from drafts, and out of reach of kids, dogs, and draperies.
You may now light your candle. To avoid tunneling and ensure an even burn for every minute of the candle's "life," when lighting a candle for the first time, burn it until all of the wax has melted, up to the sides of the vessel.
Tip #2 - Keeping your candle clean
After using a candle a few times, you may find that soot and other particles have formed within the container. Remove this waste as soon as you notice it.
When you detect wick trimmings in your candle's wax, use tweezers (or something similar) to remove them. Wipe away soot, fingerprints, and other aesthetic distractions using a dry cloth. (Do not use a wet towel since water might cause your candle to burn unevenly.)
"Debris that grows above the wax can be ignited by the candle's flame, resulting in multiple flames in the candle," says Maria, candle artist at Moon River
Tip #3 - Avoid sunlight
Avoid exposing your candles to direct sunlight or bright interior lighting, such as spotlights. Temperature variations, as well as light, might accelerate the aging process. Store your candles in a cold, dark area between seasons.
Tip #4 - Do let the candle burn for about 3-4 hours at a time
One of the most common candle mistakes is allowing candles to burn too long—or not long enough. Candles are designed to burn for three to four hours at a time, so you'll want to come as close to that burn period as possible.
If you burn your candle too short, it may tunnel or not smell very pleasant. But fi you leave it for too long, your candle will become too hot and its wax will become too thin, damaging your fragrance oils.
Tip #5 - Know when to say goodbye
You should put out a candle before it runs out of wax altogether. Why?
If you let your candle burn all the way down, it may overheat its container, causing harm, a mess, or both. Most candle experts recommend that you put out your candle while it still has 1-2cm of wax remaining in it.
